Clearmountain’s 8068
Experience the legendary sound of engineer Bob Clearmountain’s custom Neve 8068 console, meticulously recreated in plugin form. Clearmountain’s 8068 plugin delivers the iconic warmth and clarity that defined countless hit records, bringing its unparalleled character directly to your DAW.
Authentic Analog Character
Bob’s Custom 8068 Console
Apogee have painstakingly modeled every circuit and component of Bob Clearmountain’s modded Neve 8068 console – THE original console from Power Station in New York City – the very board used to mix hits for artists like Kool & The Gang, Sister Sledge, and Chic. This meticulous emulation captures the console’s unique non-linearities and harmonic richness, providing an unrivaled level of authenticity.
Rich, Musical EQ
The Clearmountain’s 8068 plugin features the console’s highly musical 3-band EQ, offering more EQ points than the classic 1073 and an inherently wide and musical response perfect for shaping drums, vocals, and strings. A high-Q mode provides additional precision when needed.
Harmonic Saturation
Versatile Input Modes
Unleash a wide spectrum of sonic character with Clearmountain’s 8068 plugin’s distinct input modes. Engage the Line mode for the classic sound and richness these models are known for, adding pleasant harmonic content and coloration that simply makes things sound better. For more aggressive tonal shaping, switch to Mic mode. Unlike conventional analog use, in the plugin, Mic mode provides a distinctly extreme effect, adding distortion and significant amounts of saturation, even at modest settings. Push it further for grit and snarl, and at its highest settings around 80dB, you can even introduce unique artifacts, ducking, and other characteristics that lend themselves to a pleasing, almost lofi, style and aesthetic. This allows you to sculpt everything from subtle warmth to powerful, harmonically rich textures.
Intelligent Auto Gain
Take advantage of the intelligent Auto Gain feature, a truly helpful tool for your workflow. It automatically keeps levels consistent when you drive the Mic gain, ensuring your ears aren’t deceived by changes in volume. This means you can freely explore the full range of saturation and grit offered by the plugin’s Mic mode without constantly adjusting the output level, allowing you to focus purely on the tonal character you’re creating.
